Memory

Dear Dr. Stovall,

My memory is not what it used to be. I don’t think I have Alzheimers or anything, but I am beginning to worry.  Is there anything I can take to help?

Thanks,

OP

Dear OP,

There are several products that have historically been used to maintain brain health.  Some of the most widely used are:

Ginkgo Biloba

Omega 3 Fatty Acids (Fish or flax Oil)

Rosemary

Ginseng

Hawthorne

Gotu Kola

Schisandra

Green tea (ECGC)

Lately, there has been a surge in the use of Lithium, and a recent 700 Club episode highlighted the benefits of ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid), and we consistently sell a lot of Nature’s Sunshine’s Focus Attention, which has a blend of memory-enhancing herbs.  There are several memory enhancing herbal products manufactured by honest and reputable companies, speak to your health care professional or local health food store for more information.

As always, your diet is the best aid to better health, including brain health.  Eat plenty of good fats from sources such as olive oil, nuts, seeds, and avocadoes, reduce the amount of processed (boxed, canned or bagged) foods, and eat less “white” food, such as white bread, white rice, and sweetened and processed cereals, look for whole grain alternatives such as whole grain bread, and slow cooking oatmeal, and brown rice or quinoa.  Get plenty of exercise to keep your brain oxygenated, walking is the best and safest.  Walk to the mailbox, park farther away from the grocery store, take the stairs, increase your steps slowly.  You can do it!

To your health,

Terri Stovall
